Some schemes have one central dish feeding every unit through a distribution system. Where that exists, the correct answer is almost never to put up your own: you connect to the existing feed at the point provided in your unit, and the trustees or the managing agent can tell you who maintains it. If the communal feed is faulty, that is a scheme repair, not a repair you should be paying for out of your own pocket.

Other schemes have nothing communal and each owner has put up their own dish, sometimes on a balcony, sometimes on a shared wall. There the question is what the conduct rules allow: dish size, where it may be fixed, whether it may be visible from the street, and whether the body corporate's written permission is needed first. Check that before booking anything — it is a short email and it is much easier than taking a dish down again.

Once we know the rules, the installation is planned to fit them. That often means a lower mount than we would otherwise choose, a position on a side or rear elevation rather than the street face, and cable that is clipped along an existing line and colour-matched where it crosses something visible. A dish does not have to be on the highest point of a building to work; it has to have an unobstructed view along one particular line, and there is usually more than one place that provides it.

Access is worth mentioning when you book. Some schemes restrict contractor hours, some need a visitor booked in at the gate, and in a complex with shared driveways there is often only one sensible place to put a ladder. Telling us up front means the whole job happens in one visit.

Not everything in the area is a complex, and for a freestanding house the job is the ordinary one: pick the mounting position by signal rather than by convenience, fix the bracket into something solid, run RG6 to each TV point, seal every outdoor connector and set up the decoder.
